The private-for-politicians Parades for the celebration of the 25th of March 2012
Military parade in memory of the Greek Revolution of 1821 against the Ottoman Empire. On 25 March 2012, only a very small number of Greek citizens attended, whereas, the fully-geared Police forces (riot police, policemen, special squads, plain-clothes officers and snipers) were equal -if not more- than the civilians attending, and were in a constant state of readiness to “engage”. The people who attended were, for the first time in modern Greek history, ENTIRELY FORBIDDEN to enter Syntagma square, which has ALWAYS been the right and privilege of all Greek citizens, even during the period of the Junta (dictatorship of 1967-74).
